The single most valuable action you can take on your website is adding posts. You might call them blog posts or news articles. Posts are updates that you share with your readers, the same way that a newspaper shares daily articles…. or the same way an internet blogger shares weekly activities.
When you add a post to your website, Google and other search engines see that your website has life and breath… as opposed to other websites that sit dormant for months on end. Google usually indexes your new article within hours of you posting it, making your new information available throughout the world. The more activity on your site, the more likely you are to show higher in search results and increase your site traffic.
Plus, posts keep your site fresh for your readers. Your visitors want to see new information when they make a return visit each day or week.
Adding a new post to your site is simple:
- When you are logged into your site’s admin area, look at the left-side menu, then mouse over “Posts” and click “Add New.”
- On the next page, fill in the Title at the top.
- Type (or paste) your article into the larger white box.
- Click the blue button that says “Publish.” Your article is now online and you can view it on your news page.
Additional steps that are optional:
- In the Featured Image box, click “Set featured image” and upload an image that’s around 100 kilobytes in file size. (Large images take up space and take longer to load.)
- In the Category box, select the appropriate categories for your article. Feel free to add a new, relevant Category.
- If you want your post to publish in the future rather than right now, find the Publish box, and click on “Edit” that’s next to “Publish Immediately” — then change the publish date and time to your desire.
